DCB Girls’ College is a premier institution of women education in Assam. This institution plays a vital role in promoting women education entire upper Assam. The Education Department plays a vital role in offering Major as well as General course in the college. Now, the Education Department is a full-fledged Department with five faculty members. From the beginning of the college, 1955, Education subject was introduced. The Department has its own full-fledged psychological Laboratory room with required operators along with the departmental common room. The Education Department was initiated with Mrs. Neelima Baruah, Mrs. Shanta Phukan and Mrs. Billoris Leinden. In their temporary stints, they put all the earnest efforts to give a right direction in teaching “Education” after which it did not have to look-back. Mrs. Bani Sharma and temporally supported by Mrs. Utpala Baruah were succeeded by Mr. Kanak Hazarika and Mrs. Kabita Rajguru in 1965 and 1966 respectively. Under their stupendous guidance, the Department had grown up by leaps and bounds. Subsequently, these two dedicated teachers started “Honours” Course in the subject with a few students. After that Mrs. Nilima Hazarika and Mrs. Bulu Borah joined in 1971 and in 1977 respectively and supported in marching ahead and gave full shape and colour to the department. Our department has a forum namely ‘Shiksha Forum’ that was formed under the Presidentship of Kabita Rajguru and Secretary of Nilima Hazarika in 2002 in order to promote a healthy climate as well as to encourage creative thinking, exchange of ideas among the students and teachers of the department. Till now, under this forum various academic and non-academic programmes are being organized.
Vision of the Department
The vision of our department is to strengthen and empower the prospective women counterpart through promoting girls’ education. The department of education is concentrated to provide quality education and focus on the development of knowledge, life skills, values and attitudes of the students.
