COLLEGE LIBRARY
ABOUT LIBRARY

The central library which is the heart of the DCB Girls’ college was established in 1957. It provides one of the important academic services to the college. It is a well equipped library, centrally located with easy access and does provide right thrust for the intellectual growth of the students, teachers, research scholars and others around. The user friendly college library, equipped with the latest technology and fitted with CCTV cameras has a comprehensive collection of over 26000 books on a wide range of subjects, encyclopedias volumes, current journals, magazines and newspapers of national importance.

COMPUTERIZATION OF LIBRARY

Software for University Library (SOUL) is based on requirements of college and university libraries. It is user friendly software developed to work under client-server environment. The software is compliant to international standards for bibliographic formats, networking and circulation protocols. Software was designed to automate all housekeeping operations in a library. The latest version of the software SOUL 2.0 has been designed and DCB Girls College Library using SOUL 2.0 from 2016.

DIGITAL LIBRARY

DCB library has an Institutional Repository (IR) using software DSpace. DSpace has become quite popular among digital library implementers. It has been packaged in a way that it is very easy to use. Users can access Institutional Repository and web- OPAC through mobile, computer or laptop. The whole campus including administrative building is under Digital Library Wi-Fi connectivity. The IR contains the digital copies of all the issues of college magazines DCBIANS from first issue. It also contains scanned copies of departmental magazines, Journals, and newsletters. Scanned copies of questions papers of the previous years are also uploaded in IR regularly. This IR also contains digitized copies of manuscripts, articles, research papers and other writings of faculty and staff. Theses, MRP, Reports and dissertations are uploaded for benefit of students and faculty members.

LIBRARY RULES
  1. Library will remain open from 9.00AM to 4.00 PM on all college working days.
  2. Before entering the library, books (not belonging to the Library), all sorts of bags, umbrellas, packets etc. are to be deposited in the property counter.
  3. Before entering the Library the Gate Register is to be signed legibly.
  4. Borrowers must satisfy themselves about the physical condition of the book before borrowing, otherwise they will be held responsible for any damage or mutilation noticed at the time of returning.
  5. If a borrower fails to return a book borrowed by him/her or if the book is found to be damaged or mutilated he/she will be required to either (a) replace the book with a new copy or (b) pay ten times on the publisher's price of the book.
  6. Books borrowed by the library members may be recalled by the librarian at any time.
  7. Borrowers must keep books and newspapers in proper places before leaving the reading room.
  8. A member must produce his/her identity card & library membership card at the time of borrowing.
  9. The membership card is not transferable.
  10. If the Membership Card gets lost or mutilated because of use or otherwise, it should be reported to the Librarian immediately. A duplicate membership card will be issued on the payment of Rs. 50.00 only.
  11. No reference books, rare books & periodicals shall be issued to members
  12. Strict Silence, Serenity, Decorum & Discipline should be maintained inside the library.
  13. Students are to return books before their final examination, failing which they will be declared as library defaulter.
  14. Readers have to take Library Clearance Certificate before they take release from the college.
  15. Reader can drop any suggestions, complaints in the reader’s suggestion box.
  16. For the smooth and efficient management of the library the Librarian/Library Committee is authorized to formulate any such rule that may be deemed necessary from time to time.
